Nintendo released version 1.2.0 of Star Fox for Nintendo Switch 2 on September 29, 2026. According to Nintendo’s patch notes on its support site, the update is mostly about Battle Mode, with new stages and local play, plus fixes for crashes and freezes in the campaign. It follows version 1.1.0 from June 24, 2026.

What is new in Battle Mode

  • Three new stages: Katina, Sector X and Venom.
  • New items that appear during battles.
  • Split screen for up to four players on one Switch 2. Each player needs a controller, and Joy-Con 2 or original Joy-Con can be held sideways as single controllers.
  • Team entry into random online matches using split screen.
  • The online lobby no longer breaks up when the host leaves.
  • With a camera in GameChat in full-screen play, the camera feed now appears on screen at moments such as shooting down an enemy. Nintendo notes that a USB camera is sold separately and that the feed and microphone audio go only to GameChat members.

Changes to the campaign and challenges

Choosing “Abandon campaign” after a game over now asks for confirmation. Nintendo also made it easier to see when certain bosses are taking damage, changed the colour of the Bolse Core boss’s weak point, adjusted a Sector X challenge so it can be finished even after picking up the wing-repair item, and moved the goalposts in a Training tilt challenge to make them easier to fly through.

Fixes

The list of fixes is long. Among them:

  • crashes when repeatedly restarting Corneria, and occasional crashes when starting an online battle;
  • several freezes after bosses in Aquas, Area 6 and Titania, and after moving between Challenge Mode and Campaign Mode on Venom;
  • a scoring bug in which about 1,000 points went uncounted once a player’s score passed roughly 1,200;
  • online matches that could stall for everyone if the host lost connection.

Nintendo also says it addressed third-party USB cameras not working in the game, while adding that not every USB camera is guaranteed to work.

How to get it

The update installs automatically on a connected Switch 2 with automatic software updates turned on. Otherwise, highlight Star Fox on the HOME Menu, press + or −, and choose Software Update, then Over the Internet. Nintendo says the update is needed to use the game’s online features, which also require Nintendo Switch Online, and that existing saves remain usable.
